Following is a nice video of Dan Solin, author of The Smartest Investment Book You'll Ever Read, talking to Google employees about individual investing from a few years ago. It's quite long, but certainly worthwhile if you're just starting out. Nothing revolutionary, but provides a good framework for those coming up with an asset allocation plan; and keeps it very simple.
